Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas Earn Perfect Scores in the Finale

November 21st, 2017

Night one of the Dancing With the Stars finale brought two more rounds of dance for the four remaining couples in the competition.  Round one was the Redemption round.  Each couple was assigned one of the judges, who worked with them to improve on a dance they had done earlier in the season.  Lindsey and Mark were with guest judge Julianne Hough, who assigned them the quickstep.  After some work on Lindsey's posture the couple were ready for a long dance that involved staying in hold nearly the entire time.  They danced to Barflies at the Beach by Royal Crown.  The couple received rave reviews from the judges, including a Lindsey is the most improved dancer comment from judge Cari Ann Inaba.  They also received a perfect 40!

After all the round one dances, the show told the story of Marinda Davis, a choreographer who has received a terminal diagnosis.  She choreographed a dance about her life, which was danced by Julianne Hough.  She danced to Wouldn't Change Anything by Alexander Jean, and the performance included Mark Ballas and BC Jean performing the song live.

The final round of performances is the much anticipated freestyle round.  Mark choreographed a routine to represent Lindsey and her journey.  The story was of a conductor being swept away by the music, and included Lindsey playing her violin while still dancing with Mark.  The performance brought down the house and was given a perfect 40!

Team Stark ended the night with a perfect 80, tied with Jordan Fisher and Lindsay Arnold for first place.  Tuesday night will be two more dances, one last chance for the fans to vote, and then the awarding of the Mirror Ball Trophy.

Team Stark Survives A Double Elimination

October 31st, 2017

The Halloween Dancing With the Stars show brought thrills and chills, highs and lows, treats in the form of great dances and tricks courtesy of Sasha Farber.  The final trick of the show was an unannounced double elimination.  Each team did a new dance style, and then performed with 3 other couples in the team dance.  Adding drama to the night was the news Lindsey Stirling had suffered a rib injury and it was unknown whether she would be able to perform.

Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas were assigned the paso doble.  They danced to Lindsey's song Roundtable Rival using a combination of paso doble and river dancing and celebrating the Mexican celebration the Day of the Dead.  While there were moments that showed that Lindsey was in pain, she powered through the dance which included side by side knee walks with Mark.  The judges praised the performance and gave them a combined score of 27.

For the team dances, Mark and Lindsey joined Terrell Owens, Cheryl Burke, Jordan Fisher, Lindsay Arnold, Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev in performing a routine to The Monster Mash.  The judges were underwhelmed and criticized their movement as a group, giving them a score of 24.

This gave Lindsey and Mark a total score of 51.  For the first time this season, Team Stark is close to the bottom of the leaderboard, landing in 5th place.  They survived the double elimination of Nikki Bella and Artem Chigvintsev and Vanessa Lachey and Maks Chmerkovskiy.

Next week the teams will have two new dances, one of which will be a trio dance with a former DWTS contestant.

Dancing With the Stars Goes to the Movies had each of the remaining couples dancing a tribute to different genres of movies.  Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas were assigned an Argentine Tango which paid tribute to the science fiction movie.  They were assigned the song "Human" by Sevdaliza.  They chose a theme of Mark as a mad scientist striving to create the "perfect" partner, portrayed by Lindsey.

The dance received a standing ovation from the audience and raves from the judges.  Head judge Len Goodman said he gave them a 10 last week because they deserved it, and this week they deserve one too.  Judge Cari Ann Inaba said Lindsey "slayed" the performance and Judge Bruno Tonioli said Ballas created a work of genious and that it was the best dance of the season!  Guest judge Shania Twain was also impressed, and joined the judges panel in unanimously giving the duo a 10, resulting in a perfect score of 40!

Lindsey and Mark topped the leaderboard for the week and were called safe.  They will move on to week 7 of the competition.  Singer Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd were eliminated.
