Mark Ballas and Paige Van Zant get their groove on!

April 26th, 2016

Famous Dances week arrived in the ballroom, with each couple assigned an iconic dance from a live performance or movie.  Mark and Paige were reunited after the week 5 Switch Up week, only to learn that their song and dance choice had not cleared for legal use.  They were assigned Soul Bossa Nova from the Austin Powers movie.  Starting off with a two day disadvantage, Mark and Paige quickly pulled together a jazz routine to reflect the quirkiness and color of the 60's.  The dance received rave reviews from the judges and earned them a score of 28, including a 10 from hard to please Head Judge Len Goodman.

During the elimination phase, Paige and Mark were one of three couples in jeopardy.  Jeopardy does not mean necessarily they were in the bottom three-but that they were not yet called safe.  Ultimately Doug Flutie and Karina Smirnoff were eliminated, propelling Paige and Mark into week 7.  They currently have the second highest cumulative score behind Wanya Morris.  Week 7 will be a dance the couple has yet to perform and the team dances.  For the first time, these dances will be the men versus the women, so it should be a fierce night of competition!

Dancing With the Stars Switches Things up!

April 19th, 2016

The half way point of the Dancing With the Stars season brought on the ever challenging "Switch Up" week.  This week all the couples were required to switch partners, with the partners being decided by the votes of the fans.

The fans paired Mark with Ginger Zee.  They danced a salsa to  La Malanga by Eddie Palmieri.  Dressed in bright yellow, the team came out and did a saucy  salsa that  earned a 32 from the judges.

Mark's regular partner, Paige Van Zant was paired with Sasha Farber.  The fans voted for them to a rumba, which they performed to "Perfect" by One Direction.  The dance divided the judges with two praising it, and two saying it lacked traditional steps.  They earned a 31 as their score.

Paige and Mark landed in third  place on the leaderboard.  There was no elimination and week four and five's scores and votes will be combined to determine who will be eliminated during week six.

Mark Ballas and Paige VanZant Dance to the theme from Toy Story

April 12th, 2016

The ballroom became the happiest place on earth as Dancing With the Stars celebrated Disney night!  The remaining 10 couples chose songs from Disney movies and danced new dances styles in week four of the competition.  Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas chose to dance to You've Got a Friend in Me from Toy Story.  The duo dressed as the characters Woody and Jessie from the movie and took the ballroom into the toybox, complete with the DWTS troupe as the toy soldiers!  The lively quickstep was the final dance of night, a slot usually saved for a show stopper routine, which Mark and Paige delivered.  The three judges and guest judge Zendaya all loved the spirited dance.  The couple received a 9 from each of the judges, tying with Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy for the highest score of the night.

Marla Maples and Tony Dovolani were eliminated at the end of the night.  Next week the couples change partners as Switch Up week  is decided by fan votes.

Judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli loved the dance and gave it a score of 8.  Judge Len Goodman felt it was a wonderful performance, but he wanted to see more paso doble, and scored them a 7.
