Week 5 of Dancing With the Stars is the much talked about "Switch Up" week. All the couples are required to change partners for this week based on twitter votes cast by fans, This week Mark Ballas will be dancing with Paula Deen. Paula had quite the reaction on learning her partner for the week, including statement such as "You can't take me" and "You're too edgy"
Week four of Dancing With the Stars was the always emotional Most Memorable Year of Life episode. The week gives the fans a chance to learn more about the celebrities and their individual journeys. Alexa chose 2000 as her most memorable year. That year she booked the Spy Kids movie and moved with her family to Austin. She reflected on how her family stuck together, and that the song Mama Said was played often during this time. She performed to The Shirelles song as a tribute to her mother. The routine was praised by the judges, but she did have a mistake in her footwork, which lowered her score. She was given a 21 by the judges.
Mark and Alexa were called safe and will move on to week five of the competition, which will be Switch Up week. For the one week, they will each dance with a different partner, determined by a fan twitter vote.
This week on Dancing With the Stars was Television themes week. Mark and Alexa performed a jazz routine to the theme from Breaking Bad, complete with Mark looking like Walter White and hazmat suits! The couple got rave reviews from the judges, which included guest judge Alfonso Riberio, and a total score of 36. This was the highest score of the season and propelled them to the top of the leaderboard along with Nick Carter and Sharna Burgess.
Mark and Alexa talk to Access Hollywood about the experience on DWTS so far, including wardrobe, how it feels to compete against your spouse, and wardrobe precautions. They will be dancing to the theme from Breaking Bad next week.
In Part Two of Hometown Glory week, DWTS had the professional dancers select music to honor their hometown. Mark and Alexa danced a rumba to Somewhere in Time. Mark grew up in London, and his parents were some of the best professional dancers in the world. Somewhere in Time was one of the last routines they performed to as a married couple. The beautiful routine received a 22 from the judges.
Victor Espinosa and Karina Smirnoff were eliminated at the end of the night, so Team Baega moves on to week three of the competition.
