Mark Ballas Choreographs for So You Think You Can Dance

August 24th, 2016

So You Think You Can Dance the Next Generation is down to the final six competitors.  Mark Ballas was brought in to choreograph two routines.  The first was for competitor Ruby and her All Star partner Paul.  The fun jive to Little Richard's Rip It Up even had the judges moving their feet!

The second routine was for two competitors who are not ballroom dancers.  Tate and Kida were teamed together to perform a style outside their genre.  Mark choreographed a gypsy themed paso doble to Diablo Rojo by Rodrigo y Gabriella.  Paula Abdul called this choreography "brilliant"!

Season 22 crowns a new champion

May 25th, 2016

The finale of Dancing With the Stars was a two hour event bringing back the entire cast to celebrate the naming of the new champion.  Each of the contestants from season 22 danced either a favorite routine or a new number.  The three finalists selected their favorite dance to reprise.  Mark and Paige selected their paso doble, whose unique choreography featured them simulating a fight in the octagon.

The men of Dancing With the Stars also performed a crowd pleasing routine to Badman by Pit Bull.

During the second half of the evening, each of the finalists danced a final fusion dance for one more set of judges scores.  Paige and Mark danced a jive/salsa fusion to Little Bitty Pretty One.  Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said Paige had set the standard for the entire competition.  Judge Len Goodman said that if the competition was based on dance only, Paige would be the one to beat.

Paige and Mark received a perfect 30, landing them at the top of the leaderboard with 89.  Ginger Zee and Val Chmerkovskiy were named in third place, and then Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd were named the winners, giving Mark and Paige second place.
